CLIMATE SMART LIVING

A-hus awarded solar energy prize

04/04/2011
A Swedish solar energy prize has been awarded to A-hus for our climate-friendly wooden villa series “Bright Living”. The prize is awarded each year by the Swedish Solar Energy Association, a trade association that represents both the Swedish solar energy industry as well as research institutions working in the solar energy field.

The award ceremony was held in conjunction with the Swedish Solar Energy Association's annual conference, which is conveniently arranged in the Swedish Trade Fair located next to one of A-hus show houses. The jury deemed the "Bright Living" concept a well planned low-carbon/low-energy house notable for its certified building elements, solar heat and electricity technologies, as well as its exceptionally low energy consumption. The house is marketed also as a catalogue-house, making A-hus a “role-model” company, proving that solar energy can become a conventional function in a new house.

Peter Mossbrant, CEO of A-hus and Derome Hus received the prize.
- We are proud to have been awarded the Solar Prize. It bears testimony to our efforts on making energy efficient timber-frame houses available to a broad market. More people should able to live climate-smart without having to compromise on comfort, function and design. “Bright Living” has just been introduced on the Swedish market.

“Bright Living” is an architect designed climate-smart surplus-energy house developed in collaboration with Wingårdhs and architect SAR / MSA Gert Wingårdh. The house has both solar thermal and photovoltaic systems. The solar collector on the carport roof provides hot water and even the small amount of heating that is required. The solar cells on the roof generate energy required eg additional heating, ventilation and refrigeration.

“Bright Living” is part of the cross-industry project "One Tonne Life", in which the A-house, Vattenfall and Volvo Cars examine what this means in practice for a family to be climate friendly.
